Sunday afternoon saw 66 riders turn out for the first ever Birkenhead Tunnel TT in association with Tunnel Police and Vita Cycles. Riders came from all over the country as far away as Essex to claim the booty!!!
With £1000 first prize and a TT frame not to mention a £3000 Tag Heuer watch for fastest time to the half way point the race was on.
Planetx rider Ryan Mullen was off third from last with Andy Wilkinson (Port Sunlight Wheelers) world record holder for Lands End to John O'Groats, 2 minutes behind and then followed by National TT champion Alex Dowsett of Team Sky. At the half way point Ryan was 13 seconds down on Dowsett and in the final two and a half miles of gradual climb up to the finish Dowsett had secured his victory beating Ryan by only 44 seconds into. Ryan had the pleasure of topping the leaders board at least for a short time.
Alex Dowsett took the victors prize ,Ryan finished in a very creditable second place riding his new Planetx Exocet II Not a bad day for the 17year old. Watch out Mr. Dowsett!!
