Shimano Ultegra 6800

Designed with trickle down technology from race proven Dura Ace, Shimano Ultegra 6800 series is designed for serious cyclists. Whether racing or improving your personal best is the goal Shimano Ultegra provides the perfect balance between lightweight components and precision performance.

The recently re-designed Ultegra crankset now features a 4 arm design, this not only redistributes the support to the crank arms against the force of the rider, alleviating flex, but also enables you to switch between different sized chain rings without having to buy a whole new crank set.

The Ultegra shifters have also undergone a re-design, you’ll now find the shifting between all gears more even, so no more stiff changes when the road gets steeper. The hoods of the levers are also now smaller which makes them easier to grip and more comfortable during long rides. Ultegra shifters also feature carbon brake levers, reducing weight and improving the over all feel of the shifter.

Ultegra 6800 also now offer a wide range of gearing choices, the rear mech comes in short and medium cage options with the latter having the capacity to take 32 tooth cassette. Dura Ace does not offer such a wide range of gears and so when the road get steeper Ultegra is the go to option for pro riders looking for a bit of extra help when it comes to mountain stages.

If you are going to be riding mountains like the pros you’ll probably also be doing some pretty big descents, having a set of reliable breaks is integral to trusting you have enough stopping power in relation to the speed you are carrying when approaching corners. With Ultegra 6800 Shimano is now offering direct mount brakes, which fix to the frame with two bolts instead of one, this reduces flex through the brake calliper and strengthens the pull of the brake. As dual mount braking technology is still relatively new Shimano offers a standard single bolt mounted brake version too.

If you are looking for a bike with race winning performance, but at a price that won’t break the bank, look no further than an Ultegra equipped bike.
