The BigDog is our progressive 29er steel hardtail. Designed for British conditions, big days out, sessions in the woods, and everything in between

From £275.00

On-One invented the hardcore hardtail with the Inbred and 456 models that launched the brand - doing things differently 20 years ago. The Big Dog is a perfect progression of that packing 29in wheels into a chromoly hand welded frame that give up to date handling at an incredible price.

Triple and double butted 4130 tubing, hand TIG welded into a contemporary chassis, with routing for 1x drivetrain and stealth dropper post.

The 44mm headtube takes tapered forks and keeps things tidy and easily upgradeable. A threaded BSA bottom bracket shell means no creaks or weird workshop confusion. A 12mm though axle rear dropout sits at Boost 148 spacing to get the best tyre clearance and wheel strength and stay bang up to date.

A tough chainstay plate means great tyre and chainring clearance and extra durability too.

Gussetted top and down tubes keep the front of the frame strong, and let us use optimised main tubes for better handling.

The Big Dog 29 comes in four sizes with contemporary reach dimensions for riders looking for that long, low feel with a short stem. It's set to be a classic.

Paint finish includes a Phosphate and Laquer version which will rust in use, but we love it. If you're disturbed by less than perfect finishes, it's best you avoid this.

  • Designed for 120-130mm suspension, but works ok with 490-500mm rigid forks.
  • 32t boost chainring is design spec, but larger may fit (tbc).
  • 160mm rear rotor is design spec, but larger may fit (tbc).
  • Headset is EC44 lower cup, ZS44 upper cup.
  • 31.6mm seatpost with 34.9mm clamp
  • 29 x 2.6in tyre maximum
  • 650b x 2.8 fits (just).

Double buttend 4130 so you get great steel but don't have to pay for reynolds badge (tick). Modern geo with 75 degree seat 65 head angle and good reach(tick). Room for big tyres but still with a screw in 73mm bb so it wont click (tick). Can fit a standard dropper (tick). will only last 25 years (tick) whole frames cost less than the drop outs and axle on my carbon bike (tick). Hard not to like one of these!!
