Cyclocross is growing fast. Drawn by the fun of the mud and the thrill of the racing, cyclists are taking to the 'cross course in droves. CX is a balance of speed and skill and the Planet X XLS is an eternal favourite of the scene, thanks to its contemporary and refined carbon chassis and race-tuned geometry. Whether youre looking to upgrade to carbon or discs, the XLS is the perfect place to start.

The XLS represents the evolution of technology within cyclocross, namely, the introduction of disc brakes. If you're a road rider that's never experienced disc stopping power, you'll be thrilled with their performance. No longer must you compromise on speed - on discs you can brake later into corners and shred mud like never before, as the discs stay clean. This performance increase is even more outstanding when coupled with the XLS' lightweight carbon frame and fork. We've cleverly flattened profile top-tube for comfy shouldering over the roughest off-road terrain, too. Theres big tyre clearance, too, to avoid mud clogging. With features like these, we've made sure the XLS is future-proof.

The XLS frame is beefed-up around the main frame joints for extra strength so it can easily handle the rough stuff. In fact, the XLS wants to be ridden hard, to show off how efficiently it transfers every watt of pedal-power into speed. Go on, drop the hammer, search for the limit, gap the field.

Of course, with a bike this tough, theres the added advantage of using it for multiple types of riding. Wash off the race mud and enjoy its versatility as a commuter or road bike. Put some slick-tyres in there for the weekend club run. The XLS is quickly gaining popularity for good reason!

Full carbon construction gives a superbly light chassis - leading to characteristics, UK Cyclocross Blogger "CrossJunkie" refers to as "snappy handling and a very stiff response to hard out of the saddle efforts."

We'll leave it to Crossjunkie to sum up the bike - read his review here - http://crossjunkie.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/new-team-bikes-planet-x-pro-carbon-xls.html

This is the new definitive cross race winner.

Its BSA Threaded Bottom Bracket allows for easy fitting and good bearing life in muddy British conditions. Big cross sections make for solid power transfer, but optimal layup and subtle monocoque shaping allows for compliance to keep you from being jarred from the path. Take note of the flattened top tube - it makes the ride better and it also means the bike sits on your shoulder nicely. Carbon's great like that.

Please Note: this frame is designed to run a top pull front derailleur such as Shimano's CX70. If you want to run a conventional road front derailleur then you will need to buy a pulley.

I bought this frame from here about a year ago to use as a road bike with disc brakes that can take wider tyres and have been using it on the road ever since. It's literally a flawless bike frame! I am running 26" wheels on it and as a result have managed to fit 1.75" tyres on. I wouldn't change a single thing about it. The BB fitting is a normal screw thread BSA, the rear brake caliper mounts above the seat stay out of the way, the cable routing is brilliant. Easily worth the price.

Easy build weighs nothing, handles brilliantly, goes like stink. A really good upgrade from my alloy Norco frame that this replaces.

Just bought this frame and built it up with SRAM Force 1X. Bloody brilliant is all I can say. Complete build with pedals for 57cm is 8.7kg. Rode it today and can't tell the difference between it and the very expensive Felt VX1 that I borrowed a couple of years ago. Always been a fan of Planet X, raced a Stealth for 8 Ironman races Inc Kona. Had a Pro for years. I know they are probably open mould frames from China, but the amount of detail in it is better than a lot of high end frames that I work on as a pro bike mechanic. Can't go wrong at that price.

Great frame. I got the frame only, it's 1260g (in 51cm) and paired with an all carbon fork I already had, the frame and fork combined only come to 1650g. When you pick this frame up, you have to double check that you did actually pick it up lol. Ride quality is good, it's stiffer than a carbon road frame, but with more give than a hardtail MTB has, it's a perfect compromise.

So it's only had a couple of rides and haven't raced it yet but first impressions are good. Feels like a decently stiff and competent frame that holds a line well. Cabling it was a dawdle. It does have an alloy steerer and to be honest it adds an unnecessary element of weight so a mark off for that.

Arranged to collect my stuff from the Sheffield Store. Hadn't had my confirmation email (well I had but it was hiding in the junk folder) and was anticipating the usual surly "well if you haven't got you email mate..." kind of response. What actually happened was I has spent a very pleasant short while in the store with a couple of chaps who could not have been more pleasant or helpful. Great stuff chaps!
