Working For The Man

I've been "the man" for 29 years.

It’s 5 years since a Rouleur article chronicling a tough time at Planet X and my return to the company I founded.

I have seen the industry grow and change and transform into something barely recognisable from the early years.
I'm to quote Carlton Reid "very abrasive, an incredibly hard guy to work for.”

In that Rouleur article I went on record about my aspiration to eventually convert Planet X into an employee owned company.

"Loughran’s biggest hero, however, is the entrepreneur Hugh Facey, founder of Gripple, the Sheffield company with 300 employees that makes tiny widgets for joining and tensioning wire. Once described by the Daily Mail as ‘the best boss in Britain’, Facey has put in place a revolutionary employee share ownership system that will eventually mean the company is co-owned by staff and an independent trust set up to safeguard the interests of the workforce. I check in with him a few weeks later to ask whether such a radical idea wasn’t just another flight of fancy. He confirmed he was still committed to the plan, “yes, definitely.”

Well finally its looking done and dusted and I'm signing the forms in a week or so and barring last minute hiccups we become an Employee Owned Company.

I hope you will support us on the next stage of our journey the government stats and survey say YOU WILL but more importantly I KNOW you will l too, and we already know "I'm the man" and never ever wrong (totally self deluded).

"Employee ownership provides the opportunity for every employee to have a voice and meaningful stake in the business".

Other key findings from the YouGov survey are as follows:

- 53% believe it would be better for the UK economy if there were more employee-owned businesses

-44% are more likely to apply for a job at an employee-owned business

-41% are more likely to buy products or services from a business that is employee-owned."

I've been "the man" for too long.
