Planet X Official Sponsor of Portaferry Triathlon

We are delighted to be the official sponsor of the Portaferry Triathlon, lending support to the 20th anniversary of the event. Taking place on the 18 September 2010 in Northern Ireland, competitors will swim the 1km straightline course from Strangford to Portaferry, and cycle and run a course blessed with spectacular views of the lough and nearby mountains.

Course details

This is a ¼ Ironman distance event. The Course is challenging but rewarding and has been planned by World, European and Irish Champions for Athletes.

Swim: A fast 1km swim at slack water across the largest sea lough in Britain and Ireland. Swimming wetsuits compulsory. Swimmers must have completed a 750 metre open water swim in under 17 minutes, and/or a 1500 metre swim in under 35 minutes. Swim cut off time 30 minutes. Athletes will be transported on the 9.45am ferry to race start.

Cycle: 45km, 4 laps of a 11.25km anti-clockwise coastal circut along Shore Rd, Barrhall Rd, Ballyquinton Rd and Ballyfonder Rd. Then up Windmill Hill, returning to Shore Rd via Steel Dickson Ave. Approved Cycle Helmets are compulsory. Road or Triathlon bikes only.

Run: A 10km Coastal run with spectacular views of Strangford Lough and the Mourne Mountains.

Fancy a  go at ¼ Ironman - does that make it a Tinman? The organisers are putting on an official training event on the 4th of September where you'll be able to practise the swim with full boat support.

£5 from every entry goes to Ireland’s leading local cancer charity: 'Ulster Cancer Foundation'.

Hi Stephen, I've passed your comment onto Frank Campbell who will do what he can to sort it out. Cheers.

Any chance of orgainsing a Retul fitter to make the trip over and do some fittings? Or will they not be in attendance? It would be great as there doesnt seem to be any pro bike fitting serive in Northern Ireland and I could do with a fitting on my new Exocet and my SL Pro!

  • JonB (Planet X Team)

Yes good idea Michael, I've spoken to Frank Campbell and he reckons that should be no problem at all, cheers.
