Seattle Bike Expo

Planet X's Stateside crew took a road trip 175 miles north up the Pacific coast to Seattle for last weekend's Bike Expo. The Emerald City played host to the North West's biggest celebration of cycling and the hand picked Planet X / On-One / Titus showcases turned enough heads that Michael and his team were happy to be at the centre of the action. Even if it did mean paying eating a bit of humble pie and admitting that their hometown of Portland's arch rival was actually pretty nice... Michael writes:

"After a three hour drive we arrived at the Pier 91 Expo site under incredible clear blue skies and unseasonal sunshine. The journey had been fun but we were ready to set up shop and head out, pedalling up Seattle's notoriously steep hills en route for some tasty Lebanese food. Seattle is green, cosmopolitan, and like Portland, mad about bikes. We wanted to dislike the place- we knew deep down there was a reason to, but at that moment the Pacific Northwest's capitol city was just perfect and it was great to be there".

"The first of the two show days was again blessed with awesome weather, and a steady stream of people getting an eyeful of Titus Rockstar, Planet X N2A SRAM Red, XLS Carbon Cyclocross and of course the award winning 52mm Carbon Clinchers- people just couldn't get their heads around the price to performance ratio there. The whole Planet X direct sales direct attitude thing is pretty unknown here, and it was great to see the reactions on people's faces when they found out a little more and got a closer look. They reacted by almost involuntarily buying lights- and by the end of the first day we'd sold through most of our Phaart light stocks!

Day two was even busier, as news of the British brand's slightly "different" product set and slightly "wierd" attitude spread we had become minor local celebrities, and were almost starting to forget Seattle was a bad place... In fact, we had got dragged into the "Mini Bike Race" at the Expo Party on Saturday night, and almost got through to the finals. Granted, the semi finals were in fact the first round but we fought valiantly in the face of adversity with viscous cheating and friendly sabotage...

By the end of the weekend, we had met a lot of interesting folks who were stoked about our products and that we do FREE shipping on all orders in the US. We're bound to see a lot of On-One, Planet and Titus bikes cruising the trails and streets of the Emerald City in the near future and may even come back ourselves one day. Maybe...
