Potted History of Planet X Clothing

Potted History of Planet X Clothing

The early history of Planet X and On-One clothing started in a rush, muddled through a period of white elephants and fashion no-no's and earned a reputation for being somewhat odd. But we've come a really long way, and the current range offers everything to keep you cycling in style. Charting the historical landmarks, we take a look at some of the undisputed champions of Planet X 2013 bike wear range.

Planet X's clothing range was born out of pure necessity sometime in the heady 1990's. The rock hard and grumpy Yorkshire threesome of Lovatt, Randall and Tanner needed jerseys of a quality to match their race winning successes so Planet X founder Dave Loughran donned his seamstress cap and designed the first team kit. The clothing worked well, looked good, and the victories kept coming.

And then for some unknown reason he lost the plot a bit and got in a gigantic quantity of Hawaiian shirts (which became a classic for all the wrong reasons) and a bunch of oddities like a mechanics shirt and a knitted cardigan that although personally I liked (and still wear) were somewhat missing the point. Things turned a massive corner with Planet X's discovery of merino though and the ultra versatile On-One jerseys soon found their place into every staff members pub and bike wear kits alike.

Since the we have relentlessly scoured the world's leading manufacturers for the best performing clothing available, and now have a comprehensive and industry leading range that we use ourselves and thoroughly believe in. Every single new garment gets tested into the ground, and if we don't like it for any reason, it gets ditched- simple as that. Stylish, technical, and above all cutting other brands' prices in two due to the Planet X direct business model there's a lot to love.

Today's merino range is far more technical than the cardigans that started our mini revolution. At the top of the On-One Merino Tech Jacket at just £69.99 combines a merino lining with wind and water resistant shell. It is the ultimate winter outer garment, with a quality and fit normally reserved for boutique brands costing considerably more. The On-One Core Element Merino jerseys from £24.99 are the most technical on-bike 100% merino garments we've ever produced. Likewise the Planet X Super Roubaix Bib Tights at £29.99 are a total winter must have- warm, comfortable and above all with a cut so good you forget you're wearing them. At just £9.99 our Planet X Overshoe Zip are the best value winter overshoes available anywhere. Plus, there's a huge range of gloves, from the super warm Insul8tor £9.99 to the wind and water resistant mega value Winter Gloves £4.99 to the summer classic Fitt Mitts also at only £4.99. And as summer's just round the corner Planet X Team Jerseys are in stock in all sizes from just £19.99- where else can you find a technically advanced, well fitting jersey for under 20 quid?

We're still pushing the envelope today. Team rider Jamie Burrow has just come back from Jakarta, where he was checking potential new suppliers, and road testing some samples. Dave's recovering from last week's Munich Expos and has turned up with a massive pile of potential new lines for the new season. Exciting times indeed, so keep an eye on new products as they come in, and check out the selection of our favourite products below...
