Winter racing gets underway on the track...

Winter is fast approaching and the Indoor Track racing season has kicked off at the Manchester and Newport Velodromes. It will be an exciting winter of racing with the World Cup in Manchester at the end of October and the Revolution series beginning in November. We now have the best tracks rider in the world with multi World and Olympic Champions in all events. This means that the standard of racing at every level is improving and judging by the Newport track league last night our reign at the best track racing nation is set to continue for many years. It was my first time on the track since the National Track Championships and following a weeks racing in Mallorca it was a bit of a shock. It did go better than expected with a couple of third places in two of the scratch races, one of which I have captured on my head-cam and will be loading onto YouTube later this week. Watching it back on telly last night the racing looks quick and I can see more use of head cam coming up over the next few weeks. The Newport Winter Track League, attracting National Senior and Junior Track Champions and medalists is going to be flat out all the way and I am looking forward to it. I was using the Pro Carbon Track bike in the picture with Xentis Wheels and I have no doubt these will ensure I start to pick up the wins. It was also good to hear that at both Manchester and Newport the track taster sessions are completely booked up until Christmas, and that will bring new people into the sport. I am surprised that the tracks aren't set up to channel these people into clubs, mainly as the local clubs are full to busrting, and I am sure that our sport will not see the real impact of the Olympic success due to poor infrastructure. For everyone out there researching, or about to buy a track bike the Planet X range of track equipment is now fantastic. You can get all you need for both the indoor and outdoor season with frames and wheels for the beginner or the expert. I have put a picture of the wheels I was using this year on the outdoor tracks below and if you want any feedback just let me know. The Carbon 50 wheels are very light and responsive and I will be using these at the Welsh Madison Championships later this year. I will be posting results and remember to watch out for my head-cam footage...and if you've never ridden the track before it might give you a taste of what your missing. p.s. This winter is going to make my fixed wheel time trialling on a "normal bike" next year in the Old SChkool Plantet X BAR super quick so watch out testers here I come !!
