Smith and Hellriegel head to head at Challenge-kraichga

Smith and Hellriegel head to head at Challenge-kraichga Our top guns Spencer Smith and Thomas Hellriegel face off in a head to head at Challenge-Kraichgau on Sunday, 14th June, and we are sending the Ginger Avenger along to see the sparks fly!!! Smith and Hell on Wheels will be aiming to strike a blow in the challenge for Planet X bragging rights and position as king pin. Smith and Hellriegel, both former World Champions will take to the start line aiming for victory; and with an eye on being crowned Team Planet X captain. The head to head clash for bragging rights will continue throughout 2009 in a 3 races series set for a grand finale at the Pacesetters event The Vitruvian on 5 September. Both riders will use the Planet X Stealth Pro Carbon TT bike so there is no equipment advantage - it is mano O mano Challenge-Kraichgau is part of the Challenge-Family series which includes Challenge Barcelona, Roth and Wanaka. The event sees the athletes complete a 1.9km swim, a testing 90km bike and a 21k run leg. Kraichgau takes place just outside of Stuttgart in Germany and has attracted a top class field including Chris McCormack, Raynard Tissink, Sebastian Kienle and Luke Dragstra, who finished 12th in Challenge Barcelona on 24th May. Spencer arrived in Germany today from his base in the USA where he has already raced to his first win of the season. He called the Ginger Avenger to say, “I have been racing hard against Thomas for many years now and we have been great rivals. We are in the same team now which is good but someone has to be team captain. I am at the moment and I intend keeping it that way”. Although Thomas Hellriegel was in the car giving Spencer a lift from the Airport to the race hotel he would not comment about the head to head but added, “I don’t race for 2nd place. You could not break me at Boggle Hole and Spencer will not beat me in my back garden". The Ginger Avenger sets out today from the UK in the Planet X Airsteam on a road trip that will see him cover 1000km in the next 24 hours. If he is doesn't sell any bikes at the event expo he won't be able to get home as we didn't give him a return ticket!!

That's assuming he ever gets there of course. He didn't seem to be too confident hitching up the caravan earlier in the week.
