British Team Pursuit Champions 2009

Congratulations to the Planet X UK Track team for becoming The British National Team Pursuit Champions on Saturday 24 October, winning the final in a time of 4.27 to take the crown from the defending champions. Riding the Planet X Pro Carbon Track Bike as pursuit bikes the team capped a week of strong results with an exceptional performance. The British Cycling National 4km Team Pursuit is the blue ribbon event of track cycling. Britian are current World and Olympic Champions and the standards are high. After qualifiing fastest during the heats, a team mixing youth and experience took to the track for the final ride. Sam Harrison the yongest and strongest member of the team and a current member of the British Cycling Junior Team, Ian Cooper, just 40 years old, and completing a seaon of masters medals and over 200 points on the road and track. Boyd Roberts, winner of 2 medals at the European Master Championships and Top Dog in the UK Masters Scratch Race and Andy Magnier already finishing 8th fastest in the Individual Pursuit, a winner of the Welsh Madison and Revolution rider. They took on Agiskoviner, winners in 2008 and silver medalist in 2007. CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE FINAL 4 LAPS AS THE TEAM TAKE THE TITLE 2009 It was Agiskoviner who took the early lead. As they approach the 1km mark the Planet X boys had pulled it back all square. For the next km the two teams matched each other pedal stroke for pedal stroke. The Planet X team moved into the final 2 km of the race and began to turn the screw. Boyd Roberts put in some strong turns to open up a lead on their rivals before pulling out with a 1km remaining. Sam, Ian and Andy had to ride out the last 1km as a threesome. And they never lost control as they took the Brithish National Team Pursuit Title for the first time with a winnig time of 4:27:97 with a 2 second advantage from Agiskoviner. Earlier in the day, during the qualifying rounds Planet X had ridden before the defending champions (Agiskoviner) and silver medallist from last year (VC St Raphael) so had to ride a fast time to guarantee a ride in the final. The team in the qualifying heats was made up of Andy Magnier, Sam Harrison, Boyd Roberts and Steve Clayton. Steve a new member of the Planet X team, has been completing at Masters and Open track events for many years and his additional strenght added to the teams chances of taking the title meaning they could rest a man for the final and keep a stong four for the qualifier. Job done Steve, nice Jersey! Putting in a steady start the team were down on their schedule of 4:30. This meant a big finish so they could set a time to get them into the ride for a gold medal. Steve Clayton, scarificing himself throughout poured every ounce of energy into the final laps as the team clocked a time of 4:31.060. This time was fast enough to qualify first...and set up a ride off in the final against the defending champions who set a time of 4:32.575. px_team team_main_final px_team2

Thats interesting - they have one of those odd back wheels that I though was just a trial version that got rejected.... is it coming back to life, or was this just one left over?
