Crailsheim Triathlon - hell on wheels in form

Thomas "Hell on wheels" Helreigel is blasting his team edition Exocet to victory in Germany and reproducing the blistering bike performances that saw him crowned the first German to be victorious in Hawaii.

A 6 minute cushion off the bike saw him cruise to victory at Crailsheim.

Crailsheim Triathlon 21.08.2010

Last Saturday I did the Crailsheim Triathlon which is organized by a friend of me Steffen Mayer. He is also selling Planet X bikes in Germany, so a good reason to race there…

The weather was great, not like the week before in Wiesbaden, warm and sunny.

It was a short distance race (1,5-40-10) and the water was 22C, no wetsuits swim. I didn’t care, because my swimming is good the moment… and I was second out of the water together with a Frech short distance athlete. Luke Dragstra was third.

The 40km bike course was 4 laps with a hard 18% hill!!! So four times that climb! I had very good legs and did the fasted bike in 1:03:36 (inc both transitions) which was good for this hard course.  I had a big lead after the bike (about 6min!) The 10km was easy then… two laps
with two turnaround points so I could see the other athletes and control the race.

I won the race in 2:01:26. But just missed the course record set by Timo Bracht the year before by about 3min. But we had to swim with no wetsuit this year, which is slower for sure….
