PX Guru Team off to a flying start

Alfonso Falzarano, took the second step of the podium at the Grand Fondo of the Val di Cecina last weekend. A starting line of nearly two thousand of the toughest Italian athletes. Made for a very competitive field.

It went mental from the gun; the first attacks happened 5K in, but team Guru were never far from the action. The second climb, up a hilly path, and a succession of short steep sections dispatched plenty hopefuls. But the leading group stayed tight, three riders still managed to escape up the road; Montanari (Team Max), Corsello (Faenza Hymer) and Centenario (Viner). Pisani A Castagneto Carducci (Army GS) went after the fugitives.

Falzarano then forced the pace, eventually leaving the peleton with Fantini (MG.K-Vis) and caught the leading group on the hardest climb of the day. Fantini caught Falzarano and Corsello Centennial and soon found himself centimeters from the wheel of Pisani and Montanari.

On the last climb of the day Falzarano tried to force the pace, and lose Centenaro, Alfonso continues to push-on forcing Montanari to crack. However, the final sprint to the finish was not ideal for the climbers of team Guru. The last few kilometers were flat and windy. Falzarano defended very well, however not being a true sprinter had to settle for second place.
