US Pro Tri Team August Update

Planet X is pleased to sponsor US Pro Tri Team and even more so when we hear they’ve been getting some great results over there. Ryan Bates sent us the latest team update.

“Well August was actually pretty light for us as far as team races go. We have had several heavy months of racing already, and have a couple more to go, so a great time for a bit of break to get in some training.

Our big team race of the month was at the Steelhead Ironman 70.3 in Benton Harbor MI, and we had 5 guys racing. We always love having a big group like this which makes it more enjoyable and much better exposure. With storms and high winds rolling in the day before the race, a swim was looking doubtful. Sure enough race morning the waves were (for a lake) quite large and the swim was unfortunately cancelled. Not a big deal since most of our guys are well-rounded athletes. So the race was now a bike/run with a time trial start. We thought this would be fair with 30-second intervals between starts. But with nearly 30 male pros racing it still turned into an absurd amount of drafting and large packs on the bike. This quickly became a runner’s race as everyone blasted out of T2 in big groups. And since it was a time trial start we had no idea where each guy was, so it was important to run all-out through the finish. Zach Ruble was our fastest runner and finished in a solid 8th, with Daniel Bretscher right behind him in 9th. Tony White came in 12th, Ryan Giuliano 15th, and Ryan Bates 25th. Overall a great day for us and a well-rounded showing for the team!

Otherwise this month we raced more on an individual basis. One of our huge results was from Mike Caiazzo at the Timberman 70.3 in New Hampshire. Mike battled it out all day and had the fastest run to finish 2nd (1st American), the second time he has placed 2nd in an Ironman 70.3 race this season! Considering how competitive this series is, being on the podium twice is a huge accomplishment.

We also had some very solid results at smaller regional events. Mike won the Maine State tri after having all the fastest splits, and breaking his own course record.  Ryan Bates won the Cleveland Tri in Ohio and posted the fastest bike split. Kevin Lisska was also 3rd pro at the Lake Logan Tri in North Carolina.

On the ITU racing front Manny Huerta had a solid month. He finished 25th of 65 international pros (and more importantly 1st American) at the ITU World Championship Series race in London England. This should be a very strong result in his pursuit to make the 2012 Olympic Team! He was also 57th of 74 pros (2nd American) at the Tiszaujvaros ITU World Cup in Hungary.

We are getting geared up for a big fall of racing and we hope you are too! Hope you will come check out our expo booths at our team events, and keep track of us online”.

Keep up the good work boys. We’re behind you all the way.
