PX Sponsored Rider Lauryn Dawber Strikes Bronze

It was my first British National Championships so I was quite nervous, as I knew the girls that I would be up against were very experienced and very strong! The first couple of days didn't go as well as I had hoped, as I have little experience in the technical aspects of events. I am working on it though!

Wednesday was the Keirin. My experience in Keirins is limited but I know how important a good position is. In the qualification heats the top two went through from each heat and those who did not qualify went on to the repechage where only the winner proceeded to the final. Sophie Capewell, who had won everything else over the week, was in my heat and so it’s fair to say I was quite nervous. I got myself in a good position (right behind the bike) and waited for the attacks. I managed 2nd in the heat and so progressed straight to the final.

I was even more nervous for the final as these girls were the best in the country and were highly experienced. I couldn't believe it when again I had got myself in a good position. With one lap to go and still in a good position I couldn't really believe that I still had a chance for a medal so I just went as hard as I could and managed to come out with a bronze! I was so happy as my expectations had been really low because of my lack of previous race experience at this level. By Thursday I was absolutely exhausted and so the scratch race didn't go too well.

I had a really good week having learned lots and even a result! Roll on Scottish Senior Nationals!
