Jones wins the 5th stage of the Tropicale Amissa Bongo

A new victory for Brenton Jones today at the end of the 5th stage of the Tropicale Amissa Bongo!

Indeed, the Australian wins his second victory since the beginning of the African race. Moreover, every day is almost punctuated by a podium for him, with his 1st victory the 2nd day, the wearing of the yellow jersey during the 4th stage, then the points jersey the day after.

Concerning this 5th race day, everything happened so fast. After a very quick start, the bunch split into two with Evaldas Siskevicius and Przemyslaw Kasperkiewicz.

But after the junction, a breakaway will form again, with Angel Madrazo therein. But once again, leading men will not stand together. Finally, 30 kilometres from the finish, Delko’s riders move at a faster pace to reduce gaps on the last escaped riders. Once all together, Jones « will have no more than » to stay in the wheels, not a small deal considering the final look of the race: the last 500 meters experience a slope of 14%!

But Brenton is indeed the fastest and most explosive beating his opponents, and keeps the points jersey. The new recruit of Team Delko Marseille Provence KTM starts well the year…

Brenton Jones: “Today the team worked really hard late in the race to catch the breakaway and my last two lead out men Siskevicius and Kasperkiewicz delivered me perfectly. The spint was very tough! 14% with 500m to go, but I was motivated and my form is good, I had the best legs and took an impressive victory!”

Andy Flickinger, sporting director at the race: " Again, it’s a great team work! We were present from beginning to end, first with Siskevicius and Kasperkiewicz, then Madrazo, who ensured the presence of the team at the forefront. Then with Brenton Jones who concretizes!
