Team Holdsworth support Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries

Yorkshire based cycling team Holdsworth Pro Cycling, paid a visit to Middleton Park Bike Hub, a Yorkshire Bank Bike Library in Leeds to see how this ground-breaking initiative is helping the local community.

Holdsworth Pro Cycling who recently re-formed following an absence of 40 years are taking part in their first Tour de Yorkshire in May. Ahead of the Tour, Sports Director of Holdsworth Pro Cycling, Dean Downing and Yorkshire based cyclist Jake Womersley took some time out from training to visit Middleton Park Bike Hub to donate bikes to the Yorkshire Bank Bike Library.
Launched as a legacy of the Tour de France and Tour de Yorkshire, the project, which is sponsored by Yorkshire Bank, aims to give every child in Yorkshire access to a bike. Since the launch, 49 bike libraries have opened across the county, creating over 50,000 chances for children to ride a bike.

During his visit to Middleton Park Bike Hub, Sports Director, Dean Downing said: “It’s great to see Yorkshire lead the way by ensuring children in the county have access to a bike. As a locally based cycling team we are delighted to see any initiative that makes cycling more accessible and who knows, the next stars of the Tour de Yorkshire could start their journey at this bike library.”
Yorkshire Bank’s commitment to cycling extends beyond this ground-breaking grassroots initiative. This year, Yorkshire Bank and Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries will combine to sponsor the coveted blue leader’s jersey as well as being an official partner of the Tour de Yorkshire.
Holdsworth Pro Cycling team member, Jake Womersley said: “I can’t wait for the Tour de Yorkshire to start, competing in front of home fans is a dream come true. I hope the excitement of the Tour de Yorkshire will encourage more people to come down to the Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries and get involved in cycling.”

The race, in its fourth year, takes place on the 3rd May and runs until the 6th May. The Tour will see the return of some of the world’s best cycling teams in the world to take part in one of the biggest cycling events in the UK calendar.
Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “It’s really great to see an Irish-registered, Yorkshire-based cycling team supporting Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries, our home-grown project from the legacy of the Grand Depart and Tour De Yorkshire, which continues to go from strength to strength.
“I’m sure a visit from Holdsworth Pro Cycling in the week before the Tour de Yorkshire kicks off will ramp up the excitement for everyone – and it would be great to see youngsters who use the bike library along the route of the race next week to cheer on the cyclists as they make their bid for success!”
Helen Page, Group Innovation & Marketing Director at Yorkshire Bank, said: "We are delighted that a local cycling team is giving their support to the Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries. We are very much looking forward to seeing Team Holdsworth in action at the Tour de Yorkshire and wish them every success at next week’s event.”
