Tour of the North - Stage 4: Ballymena

Martyn Irvine held on to the King of the Hills title in today's final stage.

Today's 69 mile loop headed out east from Ballymena to a windy coast stage testing the riders' stamina and leaving the coast at 51 miles for the race home.

A three-man group attacked from the start including Martyn Irvine who was defending his KOH polka dot jersey.

The rest of the race set back and left all the chasing to the Yellow Jersey holder. It became a very technical battle over the 40 very windy miles north along the Antrim coast.

Martyn Irvine won the first two KOH primes at Shanes Hill and Ballyvaddy Road, which secured him and the Planet X team the overall victory in the King of the Hills competition.

Martyn's explosive power developed from time on the track suited the KOH challenge, but it wasn't easy, as Martyn said on Twitter shortly after the race, "Race finished and so am I! Long windy stage. Koh jersey won. Happy enough!"

The Planet X Team secured 6th position overall.
